Data from inertial measurement units (IMU) on the head, withers, and pelvis measured maximal and minimal heights, ranges of data describing vertical motion, and left‐right asymmetry under the three trotting conditions. IMUs on the cannon bones measured left right symmetry in limb pro/retractions. Statement on legal, ethical and access issues: The study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and approved by the Institutional Review Board of the UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY (Ethics number 2019‐3150) and the Ethics Committee of the UNIVERSITY OF CENTAL LANCASHIRE (STEMH 961). Written informed consent was provided by the riders prior to commencing the study. Written in formed consent was obtained from the owner of the animals (or an authorized agent for the owner).
