Field based data collection methods using a variety of turf measurement equipment. Measurements from simple tools were compared to the gold standard equipment used to test equine showjumping competition surfaces (Orono Biomechanical Surface Tester). Simpler tools include a moisture meter, Vienna Surface Tester, Lang Penetrometer and Going Stick.
