Description

IMU and judged scores from twenty high level horses and riders performing a selection of movements from a dressage test designed for the study, separated by horse and rider levels. Templates are available that were used to calculate rider coordination and transverse dynamic symmetry.

Data collection method:	Twenty dressage horses and their riders performed a pattern from which walk, trot and canter, and transitions from extended to collected trot were analyzed based on data from inertial measurement units that measured three-dimensional accelerations and rotations of the horse’s trunk, the rider’s pelvis and the rider’s trunk. The selected movements were observed on video and scored by two or three high ranking dressage judges. The judged scores were then compared with the data describing movements of the horse’s trunk, the rider’s pelvis and the rider’s trunk.
Statement on legal, ethical and access issues:	The study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki, and approved by the Institutional Review Board of the UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY (Ethics number 2019-3150; 15th October 2019) and the Ethics Committee of the UNIVERSITY OF CEN-TRAL LANCASHIRE (STEMH 961; 6th February 2019). Written informed consent was provided by the riders prior to commencing the study. Written informed consent was obtained from the owner of the animals (or an authorized agent for the owner).
